With restrictions lifting and Boris’s end date in sight, Leeds is opening up and there’s so much we want to do. Events in and around the city are springing up, so we’ve compiled a list of some of the exciting happenings going on this month, whether that be food, drinks or wellbeing, there’s something for everyone in our vibrant city.

Local Leeds tours

After closing over the course of the pandemic, local Leeds tours are back on and ready to introduce you to some of the best food and drink spots in Leeds. The walking tour takes you around local independent pubs and restaurants, highlighting the best of what our hometown has to offer with experiences you can’t get anywhere else.

The trip lasts around four hours and visits 6 different venues with food and drink included at every stop, specifically chosen to complement each other and provide a top tier experience.  Guaranteeing a wide variety of produce and an exploration of new venues, this tour may very well provide you with some new regular haunts.

Of course, adjustments have been made to the tour for the sake of COVID-19 security, and all policies are in place to ensure the safety of everyone on the tour including smaller groups (maximum 5 people). Tours will be running until 26th June, for more information on the event, visit: https://bit.ly/3g7H6UR

The Lunar Cinema

For those who aren’t yet ready to sit indoors at the cinema, or film fans who fancy a different way to enjoy a classic, the lunar cinema is providing outdoor events at Harewood House throughout June to bring together people across the country through a shared celebration of the movies.

Being the UK’s #1 open air cinema guarantees a memorable experience as you sit down with family and friends to enjoy the outdoors after a year of being cooped up inside. With all screenings taking place in the evening, you can enjoy your favourite films set against the backdrop of summer nights, enjoying beautiful visuals both on and off the screen as the sun sets behind a display of classic cinema.

If you fancy, you could even heighten the experience with some treats from their full bar and food menu whilst you settle down in the evening sunshine, and the click and collect ordering system means there’s less time stood in queues, and more time spent catching up with friends and family after a year of being apart. Never has the cinema been so social!

Hip Hop Yoga

With summer fast approaching, we all want to look good for the grand reopening, and we need some time for ourselves as we readjust to a life outside our living rooms. But exercise and wellbeing can be so monotonous it can be difficult to keep up. That’s where this summer’s Hip Hop Yoga comes in: describing itself as a ‘dynamic flow and relaxation experience’, this bi-weekly event allows you to relax and exercise to a mix of old and new hip-hop tunes in an environment free of judgement and expectation.

With COVID secure classes there really is nothing to worry about, except disconnecting from the outside world and reconnecting with yourself from the moment you enter the class, to the moment you leave. Post-lockdown, there couldn’t be a more important time for self-care, and hip-hop yoga adds a twist on the traditional methods, bringing relaxation and meditation into the modern-day.

The menu includes amazing food including jerk chicken and homemade patties, and the event provides a fully stocked bar where you can choose from wine, beers, spirits or soft drinks to ensure your night is one to remember.

The event hosts a DJ playing soul music including reggae and R&B, as well as immersive visual art projected on the walls, floors and tables so you can once again enjoy Leeds’s bursting culture as we emerge from the past years’ lockdowns.
