Yorkshire News Round-up: Weather chaos, Mean Girls and The Royals in hospital

In national news, the Royal Family have had two health bombshells with both the King and Princess of Wales in hospital.

You thought you’d had enough of Barbie fever but the pink carpets and decorations are back out again at cinemas across the UK as Mean Girls the new movie is out.

Flights have been diverted from Leeds Bradford Airport as the snow and ice cause travel chaos after this week saw the coldest night in January since 2019.

There’s now an Amber weather warning in place for parts of Leeds this weekend.

Also how to walk in the snow and ice so you don’t slip.

Plus there’s a week-long train strike to come.

Here’s the lowdown:

  • News: Two Royal Health scares: Princess of Wales Kate has been admitted to hospital for abdominal surgery, and shortly after we heard the news King Charles has been admitted for an enlarged prostate.

  • Leeds City Council urged to sell off U1 number plate which could be worth £300k to help the cash-strapped council.

  • Train strikes expected on Wednesday 31 January which will impact Northern Trains, Transpennine Express.

  • TV: Great British Menu will feature two Yorkshire chefs, Gladiators is back and so is Love Island All Stars.

  • Food and Drink: North Brewing Co: Award-winning brewery with eight Leeds bars appoints administrators.

  •  New Habbibi Restaurant is opened by a social media influencer.

Habbibi, founded by Abdu Rozik, 20, has taken over the former East 59th restaurant and bar in Victoria Gate. The social media star is known as a boxer and singer

  • if you want a job that’s sweet, a Haribo expansion has been announced creating 680 jobs at it’s “world class” facilities in Castleford.

  • Entertainment: Mean Girls So Fetch party held at Everyman Cinema. As Mean Girls comes to screens near you.

  • Weather:

There’s nowt us British folk love talking about more than the weather and it’s definitely been the topic of conversation this week. We’ve had the coldest night in January since 2019 as temperatures plummeted to -14C.

And NHS officials have urged people to walk like a penguin and waddle to avoid slipping on snow and ice.
