It all began when Darren “Daz” Jones was born in Leeds in 1986 and with those initials, he was always going to be DJ By Name.

DJ By Name like a lot of other DJ’s started playing vinyl’s in his bedroom aged 14. In his late teenage years, he managed to get a gig at a local Harrogate night club called XS.

As time moved on he swapped from standing behind the decks to dancing in front of them. This is where he gained an education in dance music, visiting many festivals and events such as Creamfields, Global Gathering, Glastonbury and Retro at Tall trees. All those times on the dancefloor are now inspiring the sets you hear from him today, you can expect to hear everything and anything House, Funky House and NuDisco.

You can hear DJ BY Name sets regularly in and around Yorkshire at an event he co-founded called FML – (Funk My Life) along with playing at other events such a House Freex (Egg London) Subspace (Nui Ibiza) and Purrfect (End Bar Leeds)
Daz hosts several radio shows “The Weekend Starts on a Tuesday”, “Sunset Blvd”, “DJ By Name Presents HouseStory” and he also co-hosts “Release Your Inner Funk” with DJ Bri Buckle, the other founder of FML. The ‘Funk My Life’ pair often DJ back2back and work on productions as “The FML Brothers”
