Web design in Leeds: websites built to bring you customers

LDC offers web design in Leeds for businesses that need a website to do a job: bring in calls, enquiries and bookings. We plan it, design it, build it, set up the search basics and, because we are also a Leeds radio station, we can tell the city about it the day it goes live.

You’re already looking at an example. We built ldcradio.co.uk, and further down this page you can open four live sites we’ve made and judge them for yourself. When you’re ready, call 07540725926 or send us a few lines.

or email hello@ldcradio.co.uk

What you get with an LDC website

You get a site designed around one question: what should a visitor do next? The answer shapes the layout, the pages and where every button sits. This is what comes as standard, for a first website or a redesign.

  • Mobile-first layouts. Most local customers meet you on a phone, so we design for the small screen first and let the desktop version grow out of it.
  • Click-to-call and enquiry forms where people look for them: in the header, beside each service and at the foot of every page.
  • A page for each service you want to sell, so someone searching for one thing lands on the page about exactly that thing.
  • Search foundations in the code: a proper title and description for every page, canonical tags, structured data and an XML sitemap.
  • One clear heading per page, readable text and images sized for the screen they appear on, so pages feel quick.
  • Content you can change yourself, or that we change for you, whichever suits the way your business runs.

Built to be understood, not promised to rank

None of this is a promise about where Google puts you. It does mean search engines can tell what you do and where you do it, which is the part a website designer controls. Ongoing search work is covered on our SEO in Leeds page.

Websites we’ve designed

Four live sites, each doing a different job. Try them on your phone and check the basics: where the number sits, how the menu behaves and how quickly you can get in touch. The full case studies are on our main web and digital page.

Paddick Engineering homepage on a desktop screen

Civil and structural engineering, Yorkshire

Paddick Engineering

A custom Next.js site that gives each of its 19 engineering services a page, then steers visitors to a single quote form asking for the service, site postcode and a project description. Click-to-call sits in the header and footer, and on a phone the navigation folds into a burger menu.

LDC Radio homepage on a desktop screen

Community radio station, Leeds (97.8 FM, DAB, online)

LDC Radio

The site you’re reading now. A live player sits in the header of every page, and the ‘on air now, up next’ strip keeps the schedule one tap away. On a phone the hero stacks and the main buttons go full width, so nothing has to shrink to fit.

Call us or get a quote

Talk it through with LDC on the phone, or send a few lines and we’ll come back to you with a quote.

How a website project works

  1. Talk it through

A short call or a few lines through the form. We ask what you sell, who buys it, where they are and what a good enquiry looks like for you.

  2. Plan the pages

We agree the page list before any design work: home, one page per service, about, contact and anything else the site genuinely needs. You see the structure and sign it off.

  3. Design for phone and desktop

We design the key pages at phone size and desktop size and share them for your comments. Changes are cheap at this stage, so we encourage plenty of them.

  4. Build and test

The approved design becomes a working site. Forms, call buttons, page speed and the search basics are all checked on real phones and browsers before launch.

  5. Launch and redirect

Replacing an older site? Every old address is pointed at its new page, so links and bookmarks keep working. We did exactly that when ldcradio.co.uk moved off WordPress.

  6. Look after it

Websites need small changes as a business grows. If you want us to keep yours up to date after launch, we can talk about what that would involve.

WordPress or custom-built?

It depends on who will run the site and what it has to do. We build both, and we’ll say which we would pick for you, and why.

When WordPress fits

WordPress suits a business that wants to edit its own pages, add news posts and lean on well-tested plugins for things like a shop or subscriptions. CY Sweeps and Service and Planning Insights both run on WordPress with the Elementor page builder, and Planning Insights uses WooCommerce to sell and manage its subscriptions.

When custom-built fits

A custom build suits a site with lots of structured pages, live data or features no plugin quite covers. paddick.online and ldcradio.co.uk are both built in Next.js: one gives every engineering service and town its own page, the other pulls its schedule, shows and events straight from the station’s own system.

How we decide with you

We ask how often the site will change, who will make the changes, what it needs to connect to and how big it is likely to grow. Owner editing and a large plugin library point to WordPress; speed, structure and data point to custom code. The build side is explained on our web development page.

What affects the cost of a website

Every quote starts from what the site has to do, not from a price list. These are the things that move it up or down.

  • Pages and templates

A handful of pages sharing one layout is a smaller job than dozens built from several different templates. Service and area pages add up quickly.

  • Who writes the words and takes the photos

If you send finished copy and good photos, there’s less for us to do. If we write the content or source the images, that becomes part of the work.

  • Checkout or subscriptions

Taking payments, selling products or running subscription accounts adds design, build and testing time, and needs careful checking before launch.

  • Features like booking or search

Booking forms, site search, calculators and logins each need planning, building and testing on their own.

  • Moving an existing site

Carrying content across and redirecting old addresses takes care, especially on a site that has been live and linked to for a long time.

  • Branding needed first

If you need a logo or a refreshed identity before the website, that comes first. Our branding page explains what that involves.

We quote after a short conversation, once we understand the job. Call 07540725926 or send an enquiry and tell us what the site needs to do.

How long does a website take?

It depends mostly on three things: how big the site is, how ready the words and photos are, and how quickly decisions get made.

A small site with its content ready moves faster than a large one where the copy is still being written. Checkout, booking and other features add build and testing time. The usual cause of delay is waiting on content and sign-off, so the checklist below is worth a look.

What to have ready before you call

  • A sentence on what you do and where, plus the services that bring in most of your work.
  • Two or three websites you like, and what you like about them. Competitors’ sites count.
  • Logins for your domain, hosting and email, or at least the name of whoever holds them.
  • Your logo and colours, in the best file format you have.
  • Photos of your work, your team or your premises. Real ones beat stock images every time.
  • The name of the person who will sign off the design and the words.

Launch it on the radio

Most new websites go live quietly. Yours doesn’t have to. LDC is a community radio station as well as a web team, broadcasting on 97.8 FM, licensed for the City of Leeds, on DAB in Leeds & Bradford, and online, on the app and on Alexa.

So a launch can have a campaign behind it: an advert or a sponsorship on air, pointing listeners at a site that is ready for them, with a landing page built to turn a listen into a call. Read what goes into a radio campaign, or see the audience and the offer on our advertise page.

We are based at our registered office in Mabgate, Leeds, and design websites for businesses across the city and West Yorkshire.

Questions

Web design Leeds questions

How much does a website cost in Leeds?

It depends on the number of pages, who writes the content, and features such as booking, checkout or logins. Two websites with the same page count can be very different jobs, so there’s no fixed price list. Tell us what the site needs to do and we’ll give you a clear quote after a short conversation. Call 07540725926 or use the form below.

Should I use WordPress or a custom-built site?

WordPress is a sensible choice if you want to edit pages yourself and need standard features like a shop or subscriptions. A custom build suits sites with lots of structured pages, live data or unusual features, and tends to load faster. We build both, and we’ll recommend one based on how you’ll run the site, not on what we’d rather build.

Will a redesign affect my Google rankings?

It can, if it’s done carelessly. Changing addresses without redirects, dropping pages that bring in visitors or losing titles and descriptions can all cost you. We match each old address with its replacement page, keep what’s already working and carry the search basics across. Nobody can promise how Google will react, but a careful move protects what you’ve built.

Do you write the content?

We can. Some clients send finished words and photos, others give us notes and let us write it, and plenty land somewhere in between. Either way we edit for clarity, give every page a single clear purpose and a call to action, and write the titles and descriptions search engines show. We agree who does what before the project starts.

Can you advertise my new website on LDC Radio?

Yes. LDC is a Leeds radio station as well as a web team, so a launch can have an on-air campaign behind it on 97.8 FM and DAB, with the website ready to turn listeners into enquiries. Our advertise page has the audience figures and the full offer, and we’ll quote for the campaign you describe.

Do you only work with Leeds businesses?

No. We’re based in Leeds, with our registered office in Mabgate, and we also work with businesses across West Yorkshire and the rest of Yorkshire. Most projects run by phone, email, video call and shared previews, so distance rarely gets in the way. Our page on web design across Yorkshire explains how that works.
